What skaters are saying about the workshop:

"Wow! what a great weekend."

"...Eddy is the man to learn from..."

"People of all levels benefitted from the workshop. Socially, it was fabulous."

"I learned more in one weekend than I had learned from fifteen years and that many speed coaches."

"I feel more confident in ME now thanks to [Eddy] and [his] workshop and I cannot thank [him] enough."

"The benefits from Eddy's instruction are nothing short of amazing."

"Eddy didn't just give us the 'what to do', he also gave us the 'why'. Fantastic seminar!"

"I loved the workshop and can hardly wait for the next one."

"Eddy's abilities and enthusiasm have inspired and literally supercharged the whole skate community up here."

"I will recommend this excellent workshop to everybody."

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!"

"I'm so pumped, excited, fired up, enthused, happy - anyone have a Thesaurus around here?? Yee-Haw!!"

"Eddy has the ability to demonstrate all the fundamentals of ideal technique in a clear manner."

"I learned more in two days than I have in 20 years!"

"...now I expend about 60% of the energy I used to for the same or better speed."

"Eddy has a gift for working with people at their own level."

"I did my first cross-over.....It was truly a defining moment for me."

"...now I have lots more confidence and BALANCE on skates....my fear of falling has diminished quite a bit..."

"The enthusiasm, camaraderie and the instruction was unmatched in my sports experience."

"I have to say that Eddy Matzger is not just some skating animal, but truly an outstanding person in all the right respects. While still young and cheerful, he is tirelessly diligent in developing the teaching techniques (like flashing around at speed while drawing diagrams on the ground). Unflagging in his patient efforts to give each individual what they need. Able to do all this both forward and backwards - but of course that's just the skating animal part. I was truly impressed with the higher grade of human being, in combination with the champion jock part. You don't usually get both in the same package."

"Yes, yes, yes!  I thank you so much for telling me about him! Eddy makes everyone feel special and brings out the best in them.  Before the workshop, I was feeling apprehensive and out of touch with skating.  Now, my excitement and passion for skating is exploding!  I am determined to practice the basics of what I learned to  strengthen my skills.  He truly equates skating with life. I am developing better balance, willing to take more risks .... in life and skating!   It was great working, playing, stretching and skating with all the people in the workshop.  Learning was so much fun working in groups and teams. I really had a blast this weekend."

"Hello Fellow Skaters -- I finally was able to attend an Eddy Matzger workshop and it was everything everyone had told me and more!  Like Richard, I am so sore I can't get in and out of my car without groaning, but it was worth every ache.  I never thought I would say that I was glad to pay $200.00 to experience excrucating pain, but I am and will gladly do it again.  It hurts so good!

As Lynn said, you have to meet Eddy to understand why everyone leaves filled with unbounded enthusiasm for skating.  He is more than generous with his time and his knowledge. From the beginning skater to the expert, Eddy has more to teach you than you can possibly absorb and yet he never condescends to anyone.  His genuine love for the sport and his genuine affection for every participant is infectious.  It was a real lesson in humility to be treated so graciously by the world's finest speedskater.

When all of that was combined with spending hour upon hour on skates with a wonderful mixture of  skaters -- some of my favorite people in the skating community as well as some I had only casually met or not met at all -- it made for an indescribable experience.  I'm a believer and I must echo what Richard and Lynn said:  The next time Eddy puts on a workshop . . . register and attend!"

"As a recreational skater, one with no aspirations for racing, I needed a
lot of work on basic technique. Even if you never want to skate a race
or enter a marathon, these skating techniques are amazing in the way
they increase the amount of push you get from the amount of effort you
expend. So worth all the practice!"

The first 30 minutes Friday pm I thought I was in the wrong place and thought about saying bye. As time went on I felt your words of inclusiveness and felt more comfortable.

I really enjoyed the weekend! I learned lots and lots of good stuff to practice!

I really appreciated your teachers heart. You included everyone, encouraged us and made things simple (but not easy). I felt your kindness and gentleness even through your fierce sense of confidence and competition.

I really appreciated all your attitudes about things youre learning and love to share with us.

You have a great gift of encouragement!"

"It is rumored that you judge your effectiveness as an instructor by how the group feels after the workshop. Well, by that measure, you were fabulous. My masseur came over tonight; I am also seeing him tomorrow.

By more conventional measures, your instructional skills are excellent. Your teaching is systematic, methodical, and fun. That is, you (a) tell us what youre going to teach, (b) teach it [i.e. verbally and visually (drawing and demonstrating concepts)], (c) structure time for us to practice each component separately and together, and (d) review it. Intermittently, you facilitate our focusing on the core ideas with the aid of clever catch phrases, all the while giving credit to those it is due. Most importantly, your enthusiasm for teaching and love for the sport are intoxicating."

"I just wanted to write and tell you what a wonderful time I had at the workshops in Atlanta and Madison. Please dont even think that your workshops are not worth vastly more than you charge. Your talent, knowledge, patience, teaching ability, and personal attention are invaluable. I cant even begin to measure the benefits I have taken away from your workshops. Not to mention they were probably the most fun I have ever had. Thank you so much for sharing your time with us.

I know you take tons of pictures with your video camera, but I wanted to send you a couple of extra pictures to remember us by. I hope you have as many good memories of the workshop as I do.

By the way, thanks for the Transpack. I never would have made it home with all the stuff you gave me without it."

"Suffering workshop withdrawal syndrome. I had a wonderful time and learned a lot. Thank you."

"Your workshop has become a great chapter in the history of speedskating in Arizona. Your innovation will undoubtedly make us all better skaters!"

"It doesn't seem enough to say, but until I can think of something better . . . Thank you. I very much appreciate your generosity, kindness and perceptivity  not to mention your expertise! I am deeply grateful for the opportunity, and look forward to the next workshop  whenever it is!"

"I have one thing to say to you . . . OUCH!!!!! Thanks for a great weekend. Im sure Ill see you at the net few races. And thanks to the workshop I might not be too far behind?!?!"

"Thanks so much for all the help and endless patience. What a difference its made. Cant wait to try everything."

"Thank you so much for your instructive, enjoyable, and challenging workshop, and for your thoughtful critique. Im trying to keep your advice in mind. The slideboard work has opened up wonderful new training opportunities for me. Your clever analogies  whalesong to birdsong, and waiting to open your presents are quite effective."

"Thanks you for the time you spent with me at the workshop on December 7-8/96. I had lots of fun, and I believe I learned a lot. My dads excited about building me a slideboard."

"So Im a bit late, but this is meant to reach you with just as much enthusiasm as if it were on time  thanks so much for the great workshop you held here in NYC. We gained a lot of important skating wisdom, and its a real eye opener to still see those of us skating Central Park slapping the ground like gorillas (not to mention the way we turn heads with the ape-like sounds coming forth too)!

Youll be happy to hear were still talking about the pursuit races also. What a weekend. And I personally have to say a big thanks to you  Ive since won both the races Ive entered since then. What a confidence booster, and knee rubbing experience. Hopefully itll keep going for the rest of the season.

You made a great impression on us here in NYC and were hoping youll be able to come back for another workshop sometime in the near future.

I hope this finds you well and enjoying racing successes.
Thanks again. All my best."

"I just wanted you to know that Greg Greene, Ken Lambrecht, and I have been using your hip dip and falling to the inside techniques all winter in our cross-country ski races. It made the most impact on Greg who has trained less due to the arrival of his baby but has raced stronger all winter. My result also improved quite a bit. THANKS!!!

Looking forward to seeing you at the races this summer."

I had an incredibly wonderful time at your workshop in NYC
two weeks (so long?) ago. Thank you! So much to think, and skate about now. One interesting result there are now groups of skaters doing weird yoga things at racers curb on any given evening. No funky harnesses, yet, but I gather some have been ordered . . . were going to get a really peculiar reputation with the rec skaters. Its a good thing.  All my friends are nuts, too."

"I've been meaning to drop you a line for some time. I wanted to let you know how much I appreciated getting the chance to meet you and learn from you. It was a fantastic weekend and made a huge impact on my skating. Every day is a more fantastic skating experience thanks to you!

I cant express in words how profound its been. I do the yoga and dial-in to the new techniques. All of us here in Seattle were dramatically affected by your workshop. Everyone improved, and it gave a sense of camaraderie to our group of old farts. I truly hope we can be on your schedule for next summer. Please come back!

I also wanted to congratulate you on your successful racing season. I follow your results in SST and on the net. Im really proud of you and grateful that your disciplined efforts pay off for you. Youre an inspiration to all of us long-distance skaters!!

Thanks to your workshop, my results are good too. I had two 10Ks where I almost broke the 20 minute mark and I finished 7/100 in the 25 mile Seattle Super Skate!"

"I just wanted to drop you a note and tell you how valuable and how much fun your workshop was for me. You really helped me get a feeling for what a truly low, powerful and balanced skating position is about.

The feeling is intermittent now, but I think with practice I can get it to last a whole lot longer. You covered a great deal of material in a relatively short time. Also, thanks for including some hills. I really enjoyed drafting behind you downhill and really enjoyed chasing you around the crossover circle (you were just toying with me), and really enjoyed the small race at the end.

Heck, I really enjoyed the whole thing."

"Just wanted to drop you and Eddy a line to thanks for everything.

To Eddy: "You're unbelievable, and I'm so grateful to have met you, participated in your clinic, and just to have been in your presence.  I think we all here in Hawaii took many things from you, and you had so much to offer.  The one thing that I took from you was: Your love and enjoyment of our sport: Inline Speedskating."

"Thanks for opening up your heart, mind, and home, as well as sharing your sage wisdom, energy, and passion. Its a pleasure to be your student."

"We had the Roll at Dole race last week. The winning slots were dominated by the grads of Eddy's workshop"
