The place? Heavenly, ay. The weather? Sublime, ay. The talent? Divine, ay. A long list of superlatives could not do justice to the Vancouver, B.C. Access to Speed workshop, June 23-25, 2000. Host Lorne Milne and an amped group of skaters parlayed oodles of information throughout the weekend into powerful poetry on wheels.

Proactivity carried the day. In spite of a physically rigorous program, there was always an enthusiastic someone or another to take the initiative to push the limits of learning and understanding.

The location was incredibly conducive to learning. Workshoppers were able to focus with singularity of purpose while skating on a 2 acre piece of ultimate asphalt, paved freshly every year for Vancouver's Indy Car event.

Participants were overflowing with enthusiasm after the weekend. Wrote one: "I just wanted to thank you one more time for clinic you put on over the weekend. Along with teaching us all those great exercises and techniques your abilities and enthusiasm have inspired and literally supercharged the whole skate community up here. I used to say that I learned to skate five years ago, now I tell people I've been skating for five years but I learned to skate last weekend.

I hope you enjoyed your weekend up here and that Vancouver becomes a permanent stop on your schedule. I look forward to working with you to make next year's workshop another huge success and your trip to Vancouver one of your favorite stops of the season. That gives me a year to "get a little lower" and perfect my jumpies."

The Access to Speed Workshop was enhanced immeasurably by Lorne Milne and Jennifer, as well as by sponsors Salomon, TWINCAM, Explore, Transpack, Wigwam, PowerBar and Bobward Flynn.
