The Pacific Northwest was at its best as an excited group gathered copious amounts of skating knowledge and blackberries at the Access to Speed Workshop in Redmond, WA, August 4-6, 2000.

Mark Smith and REI rolled out the welcome carpet at the Redmond Town Center, where skaters camped out recreated in a big way. Participants also had the pleasure of rolling along the Sanmammish River trail to the Opportunity parking lot, paved to perfection and ready to accept a whole school of eager skaters.

Stroke mechanics were a major focus of the weekend. Workshoppers refined their skating styles, incorporating improved balance and technique into their individual styles. On Saturday night the group gathered and analyzed their skills with a fine toothed comb.

Most participants used their heightened sense of skating on Sunday to roll 25 miles in record time during the MS Seattle Superskate. Then it was back to the drawing board for a full Sunday afternoon of double push specific drills.

"We had so much fun and learned a ton!" wrote one satisfied participant after the weekend was over. Her travel plans called for her to leave early on Sunday, but she found herself unable to resist answering the knock of opportunity while it presented itself.

Access to Speed workshop sponsors Salomon, TWINCAM, Explore, Transpack, Wigwam, PowerBar treated everyone to oodles and oodles of product goodies.
