The Texas State Fairgrounds was the site of a 16 hour carnival ride called the ILQ- Eddy Matzger Workshop, March 7-9, 2003, in Dallas, TX. Skaters sizzled like a Texas barbeque, sinking their teeth into tons of meaty fare, from classic skating to pack skating to the double push.

The skating fire crackled and licked at the foundations of every skater's being, improving the flavor and texture of over two dozen prime cuts. Gordon Sanders helped round up exactly those skaters who needed some prodding the most, and they responded beautifully.

Toe flickers were turned into major carvers, cleaving whole slabs of pavement with powerful pushes directed straight through the heels bone. With all the pressure being applied to the pavement, wheel wear was a given. "It's a good thing you gave us wheels with the workshop," said one student, proud of every one of his carvulous 240 pounds.

Danielle's house was perfectly cozy for Saturday night's videotape analysis session, made all the more vivid thanks to John's big screen projector. Each skater had her strokes picked to the bone in lip-smacking detail.

To avoid information overload, drills were frequently interrupted and games were played to make the learning more fun and bearable. Sharks and minnows, turn through the trees, and relay races gave levity to the thick slabs of information always roasting on the grill. Sometimes the skaters felt roasted themselves, cooked through and through by the ruthless grill seargent, but they just kept on sizzling!

"What did YOU have for lunch?" was a typical question asked of Eddy by students amazed at how hot his coals kept burning all weekend long.
